  • AXA-ARAG OPTIMA (Personal legal protection)


    Individual: Policyholder, including underage children in his/her temporary custody as well as employees and auxiliaries in the private household

    Family: Policyholder and his/her spouse/registered partner or non-registered life partner, provided this person shares the household with the policyholder, as well as their children and others sharing the household, provided they are unmarried and below the age of 20. Children up to the age of 30 are co-insured if they are unmarried and not employed (apprentices and students do not count as employed); underage children in one of the insured persons' temporary custody as well as employees and auxiliaries in the private household are likewise covered.

    Additional persons may also be insured for an extra charge.

    Coverage is valid worldwide (varying amounts of insurance, cf. covered benefits).


    Insurance cover commences after a waiting period of 3 months. The waiting period does not apply to civil damages, criminal law, crime victims compensation and insurance law or in case of a seamless change of insurance when the previous insurer would have had to provide coverage.

    • self-employment
    • crimes and defence against non-contractual claims for damages except in cases where the liability insurer rejects coverage
    • intangible property law and antitrust law, law on unfair competition
    • undeveloped plots of land, purchase agreements on real estate and new buildings or conversions if a permit is required
    • conflicts with live-in partners or room mates
    • inheritance law (only protection for legal advice)
    • conflicts involving maintenance payments for children (only insurance for legal advice)

    If it is necessary to retain a lawyer, AXA-ARAG will recommend a suitable lawyer to the insured person. For court proceedings and in case of conflicting interests, the insured person may propose a lawyer of his choice. Should the insured person and AXA-ARAG fail to reach an agreement on who to mandate as the legal representative, AXA-ARAG will choose one of the three legal representatives the insured person suggests.


    Arbitration proceedings with a jointly appointed, independent expert. If it proves impossible to reach an agreement on the expert or at the insured person's request, a judge must make the decision.


    Notice of termination must be handed in three months prior to contract expiry.

    Individual: Policyholder in the capacity as owner, driver, keeper or lessee of a vehicle, and also as a passenger of a vehicle or of public means of transportation.

    Family: Policyholder, his/her spouse or life partner (provided this person shares the household with the policyholder), as well as their children and others sharing the household, provided they are unmarried and below the age of 20 (children up to the age of 30 are co-insured if they are unmarried and not employed. Apprentices and students do not count as employed), in the capacity as owner, driver, keeper or lessee of a vehicle, as driver or private renter of a registered rail vehicle or watercraft, and also as a passenger of a vehicle or of public means of transportation.

    In addition, third parties in the capacity as driver or passenger of a vehicle that is registered in the name of the insured person in Switzerland.
