Personal liability insurance
This type of insurance protects the insured persons against claims from third parties according to legal liability regulations. Article 41 of the Swiss Code of Obligations provides the legal basis for this. It reads as follows: "Any person who unlawfully causes loss or damage to another, whether wilfully or negligently, is obliged to provide compensation." Everybody is therefore liable with all their assets for such damage, which is why it is vital to have personal liability insurance.
Home contents insurance
Contents insurance covers damage to personal household goods. Basic contents insurance covers household damage due to theft, fire, water and natural forces. Additional protection may be bought for glass breakage and simple theft outside one's home (i.e. occurring outside the flat).
