1. What is Netflix?

Netflix is a streaming service for movies and series. The US streaming service has been since 2014 also available in Switzerland.

In which countries can I watch Netflix?

Netflix is available in almost all countries. Exceptions are China, Crimea, Russia, North Korea and Syria.

Netflix offerings vary by country. If you want to continue watching your favourite series while travelling, you should check the Netflix offer in the holiday country in advance.

2. Netflix subscription: costs in Switzerland

For a Netflix subscription, you pay a monthly flat rate. You can watch as many episodes and movies as you like.

Netflix charges different prices depending on the resolution and number of devices with which you can access the service at the same time.

Is there a trial subscription on Netflix?

Netflix does not offer a trial subscription in Switzerland.

You can pay for Netflix in Switzerland

  • with credit or debit cards (Visa, Mastercard or American Express)

  • via Paypal

  • through partner companies (subscription with Sunrise or Swisscom)

Don’t want to pay by credit card? Netflix gift cardsand use. You can buy these at the post office or in shops, among other places.

Which Netflix subscription suits me best?

For a multi-person household, the Standard or even Premium plan is suitable. You should also choose the premium plan if you want to watch series and movies in 4K resolution. However, not all titles are available in 4K.

Do you live alone and use Netflix predominantly on your mobile phone? Then the basic subscription is completely sufficient.

3. Can I share my Netflix subscription?

According to Netflix’s terms of use, you may only share your Netflix subscription with people who live in the same household. Since June 2023, Netflix has enforced this rule more strictly.

You can add extra members to your account for an additional charge. This is the only way for people outside your household to use your account. Without payment, users outside of your home network are blocked.

You pay an additional CHF 5.90 per month for each additional member. With the standard plan, you can invite one person as an additional member. With a premium subscription, you can give up to two people access to your account.

If you prefer to have your own account, you can use the transfer function. This should make it easier to transfer an existing profile to a new account. This way, you won’t lose your profile information (such as saved movies and series).

4. How do I cancel my Netflix subscription?

You can cancel your Netflix subscription at any time. The subscription is billed monthly and ends at the end of the billing period. Until then, you can still use your account.

In the application, go to the Account page and choose “Cancel membership”.

5. Which devices can I use to watch Netflix?

You can use Netflix on all devices on which the app is installed.

The Netflix app is available for the following devices:

  • PC and laptop (app and browser)

  • Smartphones and tablets (Android, iOS and Windows)

  • Smart TVs (various manufacturers)

  • Blu-ray player (various manufacturers)

  • Game consoles (Playstation and Xbox)

  • Streaming player (Apple TV, Google Chromecast and Facebook portal)

  • TV boxes from TV providers

6. What can I watch on Netflix?

According to Justwatch, you can stream over 4,900 films and over 2,100 series or TV shows on Netflix (as of February 2023). Netflix mainly focuses on self-produced titles. But other series and feature films are also on offer. Swiss productions also feature quite regularly.

Netflix also offers games on smartphones and tablets. However, you must download them from the Play Store or App Store. If you cancel your subscription, you will no longer be able to play the games.

In addition to Netflix, there are other streaming services. Examples include Apple TV+, Amazon Prime, Disney+ or the free streaming app from SRG, Play Suisse.

With blue+, Swisscom also offers a service. However, you will have to purchase an additional subscription for different areas, such as sports and documentaries.
