1. What is Netflix?

Netflix is the most popular streaming service in Switzerland, after Youtube. Streaming refers to watching movies and series online. You don’t have to download them first. To do this, you need an internet connection with enough speed.

In which countries can I watch Netflix?

Netflix is available in almost all countries. There are some exceptions:

  • China

  • Crimea

  • Russia

  • North Korea

  • Syria

2. Netflix pricing in Switzerland

For a Netflix subscription, you pay a monthly flat rate. You can watch as many episodes and movies as you like.

Netflix does not offer a trial subscription – so you have to pay right from the start. The subscription will then run for at least one month.

  • Resolution

  • Number of devices you can stream simultaneously

  • Number of devices on which you can download movies and series for offline use

Netflix payment methods in Switzerland

You can pay for Netflix in Switzerland in the following ways:

  • With a credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard or American Express)

  • Via Paypal

Don’t want to pay by credit card? Netflix gift cards are an alternative you can use. You can buy these at the post office or in shops, for example.

You can also run your subscription through partner companies. In that case, you can pay Netflix via your Swisscom or Sunrise bill.

  • How many people will use the subscription on how many devices? For multiple people to have access, the standard or premium plan is worth buying. If several people use the same device, you can also create several profiles in the basic plan.

  • How important is video quality to you? If high resolution is important to you, you should also choose the standard or premium plan. However, the premium plan is only worth it if you have a TV with 4K resolution. However, not all titles are available in 4K.

  • Do you need 3D audio on Netflix? The feature produces a spatial sound experience in headphones or stereo systems. It is only included in the premium subscription. However, with a surround system, you have the spatial sound even without 3D audio.

3. Share access with additional Netflix membership

According to the Netflix terms of service, you may only share the subscription with people in the same household. Since June 2023, Netflix has been enforcing this rule more strictly. This means people outside of your home network cannot use Netflix.

You can add extra members to your account for an additional charge. This is the only way for people outside your household to use your account. You pay an additional 5.90 francs per month for each additional member. How many additional members you can add depends on your plan.

As an additional member, you have your own Netflix login. To keep your data such as your movie list, you can use the transfer function. Profile transfers are also possible if you purchase your own Netflix subscription.

Important: the owner of the account must allow the profile transfer.

4. When and how can I cancel my Netflix subscription?

You can cancel your Netflix subscription at any time. Netflix charges the subscription on a monthly basis. After cancellation, it ends at the end of the billing period. Until then, you can still use your account.

You can cancel your subscription on your computer, smartphone or tablet. It isn’t possible using the interface on a smart TV.

Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner and then on “Account”. Select “Membership” on the right-hand side and scroll down. There you will see the “Cancel membership” button. Then follow the next steps.

In the app, go to your profile picture in the bottom-right corner. Click on the three lines in the top-right corner. Select “Account”. In the next window, click on “Cancel membership”. Follow the next steps.
