Full casco and partial casco insurance will reimburse the financial loss actually incurred. The maximum sum insured is generally limited to the purchase price of the insured vehicle plus accessories. A lower sum insured may apply to individual add-ons.
Since vehicle liability insurance is compulsory, a statutory minimum sum insured applies. The legal minimum amount insured for a car is 5 million francs per accident.
GCI useful tips
The general conditions of car insurance (GCI) cover more than 20 pages for most insurance policies. It is important to be aware of the following three points in the contractual information:
Total loss compensation: how much money do you get when your car's a write off?
Bonus level system: how much discount do you get for no claims, and how much does your premium increase after a claim?

Most Swiss car insurers offer the possibility of a transferable number plate contract. This allows two cars to be registered under a single licence plate.
