1. What is collision casco?

Collision casco insurance covers damage to your vehicle that you caused yourself. This insurance policy is optional and supplements partial casco insurance.

What’s the difference between collision casco and full casco?

In Switzerland, the combination of partial casco and collision casco is referred to as full casco insurance. Collision casco is therefore a component of full casco insurance.

2. What does collision casco insurance cover?

This insurance normally covers the following damages:

  • Damage you cause yourself: collision damage to the car is covered. If you were to rear-end another car, for example, cover would include damage to things like the bodywork, engine and bumper.

  • Write-off: if your car is a write-off, the insurance company will usually pay you the current value of your car. With a replacement value supplement, you will receive more if making a claim.

  • Recovery, transportation and towing costs: cover depends on insurance conditions.

3. Collision casco: what is excluded?

The following instances are generally not covered:

  • Damage as a direct result of foreseeable influences.

  • Damage caused by driving on non-public roads.

  • Damage for which third parties can be held liable.

  • Intentional damage to the vehicle by the insured person.

  • Damage due to gross negligence of the policyholder.

  • Parking damage: depends on the insurer and policy.

You can protect yourself against these risks with supplemental insurance.

4. When is collision casco insurance worthwhile?

Collision cover is especially worthwhile when buying a new car. This is because damage to a new car can result in particularly high costs.

Your usage and driving behaviour as well as your financial situation may also influence your choice.

What about leasing a car?

If you lease a car, you must insure the car as required by the leasing company. Collision casco is usually mandatory.

5. How much does collision casco cost?

Premiums vary greatly, from several hundred to several thousand francs each year. Among other things, the following may affect the costs:

  • Vehicle

  • Scope of cover

  • Chosen deductible

  • Gender and nationality of the driver

  • Choice of car insurance
