1. Porting phone number: do I still need to cancel if my number is ported?

All Swiss telecom providers offer what is known as mobile phone number porting This allows you to take your old mobile phone number with you to the new provider.

Cancellation with porting

If you want to keep your mobile phone number when cancelling your plan, you just need to let your new provider know that you would like to keep your current number. When you port your number, your new provider will take care of cancelling your old contract and you don’t have to do anything else.

Your new provider will only activate your new plan after your contract’s minimum duration and cancellation period is over. If you are not sure when your contract is due to end, then ask your current provider.

Cancellation without porting

If you don’t port your number, you must cancel your existing contract yourself. You are bound to the minimum contractual term and the notice period stipulated in your current contract.

Comparis tip: Send «info» by text message to 503. Your current provider will then notify you of the next possible cancellation date.

5. Huge savings potential thanks to fierce competition

The mobile phone plan market in Switzerland is saturated. As a result, mobile providers regularly run promotions and special plans to encourage you to switch. The savings potential is considerable. Flat-rate plans are available from as little as 20 francs.

Before you enter into a contract with a new provider, you should carefully review the cancellation terms of your existing provider.

6. How else can I save on my mobile plan?

Are you happy with your current provider but noticed a good deal with another provider? Then you should negotiate. In recent years, many providers have started asking customers who want to cancel to do so by telephone.

This is intended to create an additional hurdle in the cancellation process. Just turn the tables: the call agents are well trained and usually try to stop you from cancelling. Often, they also offer special discounts to you.
