FAQ

If you have a flat-rate deal for your smartphone and the reception in your home is very good, you may not need a conventional Internet connection. You can then just surf on your smartphone or tablet, or set up a hotspot to temporarily enable WiFi at home. If you do this, check that your mobile provider won't restrict the speed if data usage is high.

Nowadays, landline telephones are no longer connected directly to the telephone socket. Telephone calls take place over the Internet (IP technology). This means that a telephone must be connected to a modem router, or “Internet box”, which your provider will supply.

In order to access a TV plan, you need the right hardware – in this case, a set-top box or “TV box”. This adapts the data from the cable or Internet connection for your TV. Alternatively, some TV models come with this hardware already installed. Providers of TV plans usually supply the necessary hardware – generally free of charge. Set-top boxes offer functions such as changing the order in which the channels appear, recording programmes and – usually – replaying past programmes.
