General insurance condititons (GIC) govern regulations for all contractual parties. They are an integral component of the insurance agreement. Insurance providers must comply to federal laws as to how insurance conditions are to be formulated. These legal regulations contain certain clauses, which are not to be modified at all and others which cannot be altered to the detriment of the policyholder or claimant. Since the GIC must constitute a part of the contractual content, they must be made available to prospective policyholders at the time of application. Since applicants usually receive these conditions separately, insurance providers ask for signatures as a confirmation of having received and accepted them.
