General rule: the cause for the request for legal assistance at the insurance may only have occurred after closing of the contract. Additionally, sometimes waiting periods. Once the insurance has been taken out, the client is obliged to report a possible case immediately. Some insurance companies even have a deadline for the reporting of a case. If a client reports the case to late, the insurance companies might cut the benefits by the amount that were added to the costs due to the delay.
Retroactive legal protection / belated legal protection
The case is different with disputes that occurred after closure of contract. They cannot be insured. According to the motto: no insurance company will cover a burning house.
