To be eligible for a loan, you require either Swiss or Liechtensteiner citizenship, or must hold a category B or C residence permit.
To apply for a loan, you must have had a fixed permanent residence in Switzerland for at least 12 months.
In addition, you must also have permanent employment with regular income. You cannot be in your trial period or self-employed.
You can repay instalments by e-banking, standing order, direct debit or by making payments at the post office.
With Cornèr Bank, you can take out instalment insurance to protect against disability or inability to work.
The insurance costs 6.5% of the monthly instalment.
In the event of death, your residual debt is insured up to CHF 100,000.
Lending at Cornèr Bank
The interest rate you're offered depends on your credit standing and your personal situation when applying for the loan.
Our loan comparison tool provides an overview of the interest rates offered by other lenders.
1. Protection from excessive debt
The Consumer Credit Act applies to loans of up to CHF 80,000. Loans over this amount aren’t covered by the Act. Calculate your credit limit according to the Consumer Credit Act here.
2. Choosing your repayment term
The advantage of a longer repayment term is that the monthly instalments are lower.
The longer the repayment term, however, the higher the total cost of the loan. Plan flexibly and keep unexpected costs in mind.
You can pay off (amortize) the loan earlier at any time, which will reduce the cost of your loan.
3. ZEK and credit standing
The Central Office for Credit Information (German abbreviation: ZEK) is a platform for banks to exchange information on the credit standing of their customers. The ZEK registers all information on transactions involving personal loans, car leases and credit cards. Anyone who promises you a personal loan without involving the ZEK is untrustworthy.
The lower the interest rate, the stricter the requirements are for your creditworthiness and credit capacity (credit standing).
4. Eligibility criteria
Each vendor applies its own risk criteria that are not made public for security reasons. You can find out more in our articles on eligibility criteria and applying for a loan in Switzerland.
Important to know
Each provider evaluates your profile differently.
Approximately 50% of all loan applications in Switzerland are rejected.
If your application is rejected, you usually won’t be given a reason.
All rejected loan applications are recorded with ZEK and can be viewed by ZEK members for up to two years.
