Deductible in motorcycle insurance

The deductible, or excess, is the amount of money the policyholder is required to pay out of pocket in the event of a claim. The amount of the excess is specified in the insurance policy.

Third party insurance

There are deductible rates for three different types of drivers:

  • young drivers: Drivers under 25 years of age count as young drivers. The deductible is usually CHF 1,000.—.

  • new drivers: Drivers 25 years of age or older licensed for less than two years count as new drivers. Learner's permits are not considered as licenses. The deductible is usually CHF 500.—.

  • all other drivers: These drivers are at least 25 years of age and have had their license for at least 2 years. There is usually no deductible.

Comprehensive insurance

The policy states all cases for which the insured individual must pay a deductible. The amount of cover varies from insurer to insurer. Examples for coverages with which a deductible can be agreed on:

  • Stationary damage

  • Theft damage

  • Collision damage
