1. Letter template for cancelling basic insurance

As a rule, you can cancel compulsory health insurance with effect from the end of the year. Your health insurer must receive your cancellation letter by 30 November. The date of the postmark is not relevant, only the date the letter is received.

It’s best to send the cancellation letter by registered post. This way, you have legally binding proof of delivery.

Some health insurers do accept cancellations via email. Contact your insurer for more information. It is important that you have acknowledgement of receipt. In this way, you can prove you cancelled by the deadline.

If it’s already too late to send a registered letter, you can also take the cancellation letter to your insurer in person. Make sure you get confirmation that you handed the letter in.

You can take out basic and supplemental insurance with different providers. You don't have to cancel your supplemental insurance if you change your basic insurance.

Good to know: how to cancel your basic insurance policy by 30 November 2019 Then the health insurer is not obliged to cancel the supplemental insurance policy.

Do you work at least eight hours a week for a single employer? If so, you are insured against accidents by your employer under the Accident Insurance Act. In this case, there is no need to take out accident insurance with your health insurer.

The cancellation deadlines for supplemental insurance vary depending on the health insurer. However, the health insurer often has to receive the cancellation form by 30 September.

Wait for from the new insurer. This is because unlike basic insurance, the health insurer may refuse your application for supplemental insurance.
