1. Letter template for cancelling basic insurance
As a rule, you can cancel compulsory health insurance with effect from the end of the year. Your health insurer must receive your cancellation letter by 30 November. It’s best to send the cancellation letter by registered post. Some health insurance companies do accept cancellations via email, but a registered letter is always the safest option. This way, you have legally binding proof of delivery.
If it’s already too late to send a registered letter, you can also take the cancellation letter to your insurer in person. Make sure you get confirmation that you handed the letter in.
