          Between mid-2024 and end of 2024, the reference interest rates for ten-year fixed-rate mortgages fell by around 0.70 percentage points. The interest rate range fluctuated between 1.65 and 2.35 percent during this period.

          Demand for long-term fixed-rate mortgages, with terms of, say, 10, 12 or 15 years, remains very high despite rising interest rates. Swiss consumers value certainty in their budgeting, without having to bear market risks. The Saron remains an interesting alternative for people who want to and can accept the risk of possible interest rate hikes every 3 or 6 months.           In December 2024, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) lowered the key interest rate to 0.5%. The key interest rate of the European Central Bank (ECB) has been at 2.5% since the 30th of January 2025.
