1. Who provides telecom services?
Swisscom, Sunrise and salt are the three major players in the Swiss telecom market. They also operate their own mobile networks.
However, in recent years, more and more budget providers have entered the market with new offers and significantly lower prices. Due to the strong price pressure, the conventional providers have even developed their own budget brands: Swisscom operates Wingo, Sunrise runs a budget line with Yallo and Salt offers a cheap mobile phone brand with “Das Abo”.
There are also independent providers in the telecommunications market that use low prices to fuel competition. These include M-Budget Mobile and Coop Mobile.
2. Which provider is right for me?
When choosing a provider, you should ask yourself what is important to you. Does the price decide, do you value personal contact in case of problems or do you want to surf quickly?
Total package from 100 francs
The total package of mobile subscription, internet, TV and landline costs less than 100 francs from the budget providers.
With traditional telecom companies, a package can cost 100 francs and more, with Swisscom being the most expensive. However, Swisscom also offers more leeway, for example with landlines.
Classic providers also offer a walk-in service.
If good customer service is important to you, make sure you pay attention to what is offered. Some budget providers charge a fee for their hotline. In addition to a free hotline, the classic providers Sunrise, Swisscom and Salt maintain shops throughout Switzerland, where you can walk in at any time and ask questions in person.
Salt, Sunrise or Swisscom – who has the best network coverage?
Network differences between providers are now minimal. Swisscom has the best mobile network, closely followed by Sunrise. Salt comes in last among the Swiss network providers.
Network quality differs depending on where you live. It is worth taking a look at the provider’s coverage maps.
3. Swisscom or Wingo?
Wingo offers lifelong discounts. Swisscom has a well-developed network and afree hotline with extended opening hours. At Wingo, calls to customer service cost 1.50 francs per minute (up to a maximum of 15 francs). Otherwise, the Swisscom subsidiary can be reached via online form or social media. Here are the key differences per provider:
Mobile subscription: without discounts, Wingo is cheaper and offers high-speed internet everywhere, but no 5G.
Landline: Wingo only has one no-fee offer where you pay per call. The landline network operates through the internet. Therefore, the connection is only available in combination with internet. Swisscom differentiates itself more and offers variants, such as with included telephone calls to Europe.
Internet: with both providers, the faster you want to surf, the more you pay.
TV: Wingo only has a standard subscription. Swisscom offers 4 tiered variants.
4. Sunrise or Yallo?
Both Sunrise and Yallo attract new customers with promotions. Like Wingo, Yallo offers lifelong discounts.
Mobile subscription: even the cheapest Sunrise subscription offers unlimited data, but with slow download speeds. Faster speeds come with more expensive plans. Yallo offers high-speed internet from the cheapest plan and, subject to a surcharge, also a 5G option.
Sunrise offers a landline, internet and TV in a combined package with a minimum term of two years. Storage for up to 2000 hours of recordings is also offered. With Yallo you get the TV connection for free if you buy the internet subscription.
5. Salt or Das Abo?
Das Abo is a brand of Salt, which is limited to mobile subscriptions. Das Abo’s plans do not have a minimum term. You can cancel at any time with 60 days’ notice.
Mobile phone subscriptions: Salt has a wide range of mobile phone subscriptions. Salt also offers special prices for under-30s and other target groups. Das Abo offers three different mobile plans and a prepaid offer, giving it a significantly smaller selection than its parent company. The cheapest plan already includes unlimited calls and text messages in Switzerland and 4GB high-speed internet.
Landline, internet and TV: Salt only has one offer in each of these areas, but promises the fastest internet in Switzerland for everyone (no reduction with a cheaper subscription).
6. What Coop Mobile and M-Budget Mobile offer
Migros is also trying to attract long-standing customers in the internet/TV sector. Coop, on the other hand, limits itself to mobile phone plans.
Coop Mobile with data transfer
Like other budget providers, Coop Mobile tries to sell mobile subscriptions with generous discount offers.
Coop Mobile does not have an all-inclusive premium subscription. When it comes to offers, Coop Mobile relies in particular on low prices with limited data. The unique approach is that leftover data is transferred to the following month. With the other providers, the data expires automatically in each case.
Cheap starter package at M-Budget Mobile
M-Budget Mobile offers internet, TV and landline for less than 55 francs per month. But as soon as you want additional features, you quickly pay significantly more.
Mobile phone subscriptions often come with a promotion. However, even with the most expensive subscription, you won’t get over 50 Mbps download speed. Good for money-savers, annoying for frequent surfers.
7. What does UPC offer?
UPC has now been merged with Sunrise. However, the company continues to offer stand-alone plans. UPC’s speciality is television: sports lovers get their money’s worth with exclusive subscriptions. Like other providers, if you want higher internet speeds, you have to pay for it. UPC also offers cheap mobile phone subscriptions.
