1. What mail can I have forwarded to me in Switzerland?

Royal Mail can forward the following types of mail:

  • Mail for individuals

  • Mail for entire households

  • Mail for businesses

The Royal Mail’s forwarding service is available both within the United Kingdom and for international addresses.

What does the Royal Mail need to redirect mail?

To apply for the redirection of mail, you’ll need to provide the following to Royal Mail:

  • Proof of identity (such as a passport, driving licence, credit/debit card, bank/building society book, birth certificate or EU member state identity card)

  • Proof of old address (such as copies of old utility bills or credit card statements)

  • Names and dates of birth of all people living at your old address whose post you wish to forward

  • A payment card

  • The addresses and postcodes of the old and new address

  • Further information (in the event of special circumstances)

Redirecting your post is recommended to make sure you receive important mail (such as documents and bills). It also helps to reduce the risk of ID fraud.

For private customers, an international forwarding order from the Post Office costs £302.50 for 12 months. Redirecting mail for an additional person increases this cost by £33.

For businesses, the cost of mail redirection to Switzerland starts at £803 for up to one year. In both cases, you can choose to forward mail for three, six or 12 months.

3. Where can I place a forwarding order for mail to Switzerland?

It’s best to arrange the forwarding service as soon as you know your new address. This ensures that you receive your mail immediately after moving to Switzerland. On the application form, you can specify from which date your mail should be redirected.

You can obtain the order form at the Post Office in the UK. Alternatively, you can fill it in online.

4. Notify others of your new address despite mail redirection

Don’t forget to disclose your new home address to your contacts before moving to Switzerland. This way, you’ll receive important mail at your new address straightaway, even without a redirection order.

It’s often sufficient to arrange the forwarding order for three to six months. During this time, notify all important companies, authorities and contacts of your new address.
