1. Does my health insurance cover my yoga therapy?
Basic insurance doesn’t cover the cost of yoga classes. However, many preventive supplemental insurance policies cover the costs up to a certain amount.
These policies usually have certain requirements that yoga schools must meet.
Some insurers have lists of approved yoga providers. Others use the professional register of Yoga Schweiz and the Schweizer Yogaverband as a reference. Additional certification, such as Qualicert or an EMR quality label, may also be necessary.
Supplemental insurance: it’s worth comparing.
Our tip: compare the benefits and premiums of different supplemental insurance policies, as well as which yoga schools are recognised and the maximum amount your insurance company will cover.
2. Pilates and health insurers: how much does insurance cover?
Like yoga, Pilates is classed as a health-promoting activity. Supplemental insurance companies will therefore contribute towards the cost of Pilates courses and memberships. This contribution is usually the same as for yoga classes.
Providers must also have appropriate certification for this as well. The certification required varies from insurer to insurer.
Pilates as part of a gym membership
Pilates is often offered as a group course at gyms and fitness centres. It may therefore be worth checking out your local gym to see what they offer, as supplemental insurance may also pay a percentage of your gym membership, depending on the policy.
3. Are wellness services and saunas covered by health insurance?
Like yoga and Pilates, saunas and wellness services are considered beneficial for your health. Many preventive supplemental insurance policies cover up to a certain maximum amount. Cover is usually provided in combination with gym subscriptions and other fitness offers.
Covering costs for a health resort stay
Basic insurance generally covers costs for medically required therapy at a health resort. However, a medical prescription and commitment to provide cover from your health insurer are required.
Note: your insurer will only cover costs after taking the deductible and coinsurance into account.
