Basic and supplemental insurance can be taken out with different providers.

Since basic health insurance includes exactly the same benefits with all providers, you can choose the provider offering you the most favourable price. You can change your basic insurance provider every year even if you fall ill in the meantime. Alternative insurance models additionally allow you to save up to 25 percent on premiums. Benefits covered with supplemental insurance vary strongly from one provider to another. Insurers have the right to reject applicants for supplemental health insurance due to existing health problems, or they may impose a proviso. Supplemental hospital insurance is available for the general, semi-private or private ward.
