1. Moving on Sunday or a public holiday: is it allowed?
Moving on public holidays or on a Sunday is generally permitted in Switzerland. So you’re able to move on Good Friday or 1st August, as well as other holidays or Sundays.
2. Moving on weekends or public holidays: consult with the landlord
Is the first day of your new rental agreement on a weekend or public holiday? If so, the moving-in date moves to the next working day. The same also applies to moving-out dates.
Therefore, make sure you discuss clearly with your old and new landlords when the handovers take place.
3. What are the quiet hours when moving on public holidays or Sundays?
There is no single regulation determining quiet hours and night times in Switzerland. The following usually applies, however:
In many places, you must be quiet between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Noises are only permitted at room volume at night. You should refrain from drilling, hammering and making other loud noises.
Lunch is also a time of quiet, usually between noon and 1 p.m.
Sundays and public holidays are considered rest days. Be considerate of others when moving.
May I move house on a Sunday or a public holiday? It may be worth letting your future neighbours know about your move. Most people will accept the one-off noise caused by the move.
