How can you find the right cleaning company?
The most efficient way to find a cleaning company is online. In many cases, removal firms will also offer cleaning services. Get quotes from a range of companies and compare their rates and services. Cleaning companies are in high demand around the standard moving dates in Switzerland, so get in touch early on.
Tip: at comparis.ch, you can request free, non-binding cleaning quotes in minutes. You’ll then receive up to five quotes from local cleaning firms, and can pick the best one for you.
What does it cost to have a company clean when you move?
The cost of cleaning when moving out of an apartment depends on the number of rooms in the old apartment, and the number of full/half bathrooms. The basic rule of thumb is that the dirtier things are, the higher the final bill will be. As an example, cleaning for a 3.5-room apartment will cost somewhere between 805 and 1,050 francs. The rates shown are average prices from cleaning companies that Topmovers works with.
The table below shows average price ranges for the final cleaning of different sizes of apartment.
Number of rooms | Cleaning costs in CHF |
---|---|
1 / 1.5 | 540 – 723 |
2 / 2.5 | 640 – 857 |
3 / 3.5 | 805 – 1,015 |
4 / 4.5 | 940 – 1,257 |
5 / 5.5 | 1,173 – 1,490 |
6 / 6.5 | 1,373 – 1,757 |
7 / 7.5 | 1,415 – 1,640 |
8 / 8.5 | 1,790 – 2,190 |
9 / 9.5 | 2,190 – 2,490 |
10 | 2,490+ |
What should you look out for in the quotes you get?
Reputable cleaning companies will not give you a proper quote on the phone, just a rough estimate. They can't give you a definite price until they have viewed the apartment. A written quote must include the following:
1. Fixed price: if you have a fixed price you’ll be better able to plan your move, and there will be no nasty surprises when you get the bill.
2. Handover guarantee: if the landlord insists at the handover on areas being re-cleaned, the company must do the work at no extra charge.
3. Liability: the cleaning company is liable for damage caused during cleaning.
4. Cleaning and handover date: the quote must state clearly when the apartment will be cleaned, and how long it will take.
How do you pay?
Do not pay the bill until the landlord has signed off on the handover of your old apartment. If you pay in cash, insist on a receipt, signed by the person who takes your money. You will then have evidence if the cleaning company sends you a payment reminder.
Should you tip the cleaning company?
You do not have to tip, but if you are happy with the work a small gesture of 10 francs for each member of the cleaning team is usual.
What should you do if you have problems with the cleaning company?
Professional cleaning companies will have professional liability insurance to cover any damage that they cause. Inform your landlord immediately of any such damage, and note it down in the inspection report. Pay only the contractually agreed amount, and insist on a signed receipt if you pay in cash (see above).
What should you watch out for if you do the final clean yourself?
You can also do the final clean of your apartment yourself. Make sure you allow enough time, however, and ensure that you have the right equipment and supplies. Wait until the apartment is completely empty before you begin to clean. Remember to clean rooms from top to bottom. Pay particular attention to the bathroom, toilet and the kitchen, including appliances. You are also required to clean the windows inside and out so that they are streak-free, the floor, and interior and exterior sills.
