          Questions relating to mortgage rate trends

          Between the beginning and end of 2023, the benchmark rates for ten-year fixed-rate mortgages increased by around 0.60 percentage points. The interest rate range fluctuated between 2.90% and 2.20% over the course of the year.

          Demand for long-term fixed-rate mortgages, with terms of, say, 10, 12 or 15 years, remains very high despite rising interest rates. Swiss consumers value certainty in their budgeting, without having to bear market risks. The Saron remains an interesting alternative for people who want to and can accept the risk of possible interest rate hikes every 3 or 6 months.           In June 2023, the Swiss National Bank (SNB) lowered the key interest rate to 1,5%. The key interest rate of the European Central Bank (ECB) has been at 4,5% since the beginning of September 2023.
