Cardiology is a branch of internal medicine that focuses on diseases affecting the cardiovascular system.
For example, cardiologists treat acute coronary syndrome (heart attack, unstable angina pectoris (UAP) and sudden cardiac death), heart rhythm disorders, such as atrial fibrillation, heart failure and hypertension (high blood pressure). They conduct examinations using ECGs (electrocardiograms), echocardiograms (heart ultrasound) and ergometer exercise tests, as well as heart catheter examinations.
