Medical genetics is a branch of human genetics that deals with the diagnostics and effects of diseases with a genetic cause. It covers risk assessment and the provision of genetic counselling to patients and their families.
Medical geneticists investigate diseases with a suspected genetic cause. These include cancer (e.g. breast cancer, colon cancer), growth disorders and connective tissue disorders (e.g. Marfan), but also the inability to have children.
