The most searched for car brands in Switzerland

The winners and losers of the last five years

The top ten list’s biggest winner between 2019 and 2023 is Škoda. The brand made it to 8th place in 2020 and has held the spot ever since.

On the other hand, VW and Volvo are now amongst the losers. Both manufacturers lost one place each and now sit in 3rd and 9th. Renault lost its place in the top ten: the French car manufacturer dropped to 11th in 2023 and was replaced by Land Rover.

2. Tesla climbs eight places

The Tesla Model Y was Switzerland’s best selling car in 2023 with almost 6,200 vehicles sold.

More and more people are searching for Tesla in the Comparis car marketplace. As a result, the US car brand has gained eight places and currently sits in 16th place for the most searched for car brands.

Tesla would probably be even further ahead if there were more second-hand vehicles available.

3. How do the cantons differ?

Viewing the results by canton shows some interesting regional differences.

• The “mountain cantons”: VW and Audi, two brands with good 4x4 vehicles, lead the way in Grisons. Meanwhile, in Valais, Honda and its well-known off-road vehicles make 9th place.

• Southern Switzerland: in Ticino, Mini, Fiat and Jeep are among the ten most searched for car brands. However, Mini has dropped five places from 5th to 10th.

• Western Switzerland: in the cantons of Jura, Neuchâtel and Vaud, Peugeot is among the top ten, unlike the rest of Switzerland. In the canton of Geneva, on the other hand, Mini and Honda are among the ten most searched for vehicles. The French brands Renault and Citroën are no longer in the top ten.
