Swiss Consumer Credit Act (KKG)

The Swiss Federal Act on Consumer Credit (KKG) that came into force on 1 January 2003 forms the basis of loan agreements that fulfil specific criteria and are classified as consumer loans.

It also applies to:

  • Leasing agreements for private purposes
  • Credit cards, store cards and overdrafts, if the balance can be repaid in instalments

The Federal Council defines the maximum interest rate in each case in the Ordinance to the Consumer Credit Act (VVKG) (in German, French and Italian only).
