1. What does full casco insurance for motorcycles cover?
Full casco insurance is optional and covers damage to your motorcycle.
Liability insurance is different. It is obligatory and covers property damage and personal injury that you may cause to third parties whilst riding your motorcycle.
Full casco insurance is a combined type of insurance
Full casco insurance combines the cover of partial casco and collision casco.
This is what’s covered:
Damage caused by external influences, including theft, natural hazards, fire, vandalism, martens, collisions with wild animals and glass damage (with exceptions).
Damage to your own motorcycle caused by a collision that was your own fault.

Overview of motorcycle insurance models
This interactive graphic shows you the differences between liability, partial casco and full casco insurance policies:
2. Does full casco insurance for motorcycles cover damage while parked?
That depends on who caused the damage.
If an identifiable third party damages your parked vehicle (that is, you know who caused the damage), their liability insurance will cover any damages caused.
If an unidentifiable third party damages your parked vehicle (that is, you don’t know who caused the damage), your full casco insurance may cover damages depending on your policy conditions. In some circumstances you may need supplemental insurance for damage caused while parked.
If you yourself damaged your parked motorcycle, your full casco insurance will cover any costs.
3. Is full casco insurance for motorcycles compulsory in Switzerland?
Full casco insurance for motorcycles isn’t compulsory in Switzerland.
Are you financing your vehicle with a lease? In this case, full casco insurance usually is compulsory.
4. When does it make sense to have full casco insurance for a motorcycle?
There is no simple answer to this question. You should consider the following points:
The age of the motorcycle
Your usage and driving behaviour
Your financial situation
Generally speaking, it’s usually worth taking out full casco insurance for newer vehicles – up to four years after the vehicle’s first registration.
5. What does full casco insurance for a motorcycle or scooter cost in Switzerland?
The price for full casco insurance depends on many factors. These can include:
The chosen deductible
Type and age of the motorcycle
The mileage
The driver and their driving licence category
The canton where the vehicle is registered
Any additional supplemental insurance
