Description Municipality
The village of Bironico is a pretty hamlet of the municipality of Monteceneri, which was created in 2010 by the merger of the municipalities of Bironico, Camignolo, Medeglia, Rivera and Sigirino. Strategically located near the pre-Alpine pass of Monte Ceneri that divides Ticino into Sotto- and Sopraceneri and thus along the main north-south ridge, Bironico is in an area surrounded by much greenery and at the same time within easy reach of both Lugano and Bellinzona.
With the new Alpine transversal Alptransit, which finds its southern outlet in Bellinzona, rail connections with the northern part of Switzerland have been greatly shortened. Bironico has 617 inhabitants and is located 465 m above sea level.
