Simple theft

Simple theft refers to the unlawful taking of movable property without the use of force or violence against persons (robbery) or objects (burglary). In the case of simple theft, the perpetrator does not encounter any major obstacles (for example if the balcony door or window was left open). Simple theft at home is included in the basic coverage. However, there are some limitations. For instance, unsecured cash and other monetary values are not covered. Simple theft away from home (outside the house), on the other hand, often needs to be insured separately as an endorsement. While losses due to simple theft at home are covered within the scope of the sum insured, policyholders need to select an insurance sum of usually between CHF 2,000 and CHF 5,000 for simple theft away from home.
