Comparis rating
Comparis ratings help you better assess how well an advertised car is priced. Find out how the rating is obtained and what exceptions apply.

1. Explanation of the rating system
The Comparis rating provides an assessment of the price of the car in the ad and helps buyers to gauge how attractive this is.
Market price and savings potential
comparis.ch calculates the market price for the listings using data from the Eurotax database (link available in French and German). This corresponds to the average price of comparable vehicles advertised online. The prices calculated by comparis.ch are market prices that can vary from the selling price depending on the condition of the vehicle and what optional extras it comes with. The savings potential indicates how much lower the selling price of the advertised car is compared to its market price.
Comparis rating
The Comparis rating is based on the grading system used in Swiss schools. It reflects how attractive the price of an advertised car is compared to the average market price. If the selling price matches the market price, the ad receives a 4.5 rating (satisfactory). The better value the deal, the better the Comparis rating.
Rating of 5.5-6.0 | Very good (the advertised vehicle is comparatively very cheap) |
---|---|
Rating of 5.0-5.4 | Good (the advertised vehicle is comparatively quite cheap) |
Rating of 4.5-4.9 | Satisfactory (the asking price for the advertised vehicle is average) |
Rating of 4.4-4.0 | Adequate (the advertised vehicle is comparatively quite expensive) |
Rating of 3.9-1.0 | Poor (the advertised vehicle is comparatively very expensive) |
2. Method
The evaluation of advertised vehicle prices is based on a statistical model designed by Comparis experts. comparis.ch is continuously collecting comprehensive data on vehicles offered for sale online. Based on this data, how much value an advertised car loses over time is calculated and continuously updated.
3. Exceptions
New cars are not rated by Comparis. Vehicles for which comparis.ch has only very little market information (rare or very expensive vehicles such as classic cars) are also not rated. Please note that comparis.ch cannot take a vehicle's special features such as custom modifications and tuning parts into consideration when evaluating the price.
Vehicles involved in accidents
From the data available, comparis.ch is not always able to detect if the vehicle listed for sale has been involved an accident or not. The price calculated by comparis.ch is always based on the assumption that the vehicle has not been in an accident. However, if a vehicle is clearly marked as having been involved in an accident, it will not be subject to the rating process.
Condition
The vehicle is evaluated based on the assumption that its condition corresponds to its age and the kilometres driven. Mechanical defects, damage to bodywork and interior equipment, poor-quality tyres and other faults (including those caused by accidents) cannot be taken into account.
Special equipment
The market prices calculated by comparis.ch apply to vehicles with an average level of equipment. Therefore, selling prices for particularly well or poorly equipped cars can vary significantly from the calculated market price.
