Basic cover consists of two parts:

Liability
Partial casco or full casco

Liability

Liability insurance covers damage you cause to others with your vehicle and is compulsory.

Partial casco

The following risks are covered:

Theft of the vehicle
Natural hazards such as hailstorms, landslides, flooding etc.
Fire
Damage to windows and possibly to other parts of the vehicle made of glass or other materials
Collision with animals
Acts of vandalism such as the deliberate breaking of aerials, windscreen wipers and wing mirrors and puncturing of tyres
Damage caused by martens

Tip:
Usually chosen for vehicles between 5 and 8 years old, but often also for older vehicles.

Full casco

Full casco insurance includes both partial casco (all the risks stated above) and collision casco. With this, you are also insured for all damage caused by you to your own vehicle.

Tip:
Usually chosen for new vehicles up to around 4 years old (or older if the vehicle is expensive). Generally compulsory for leased vehicles.
