Obedience training for young dogs

If you buy a dog, some cantons require you to complete a compulsory dog training course. Comparis describes what’s involved.

Obedience classes for young dogs focus on building trust between the handler and his/her dog. The course concentrates on the following aspects: putting the leash on and taking it off, learning behaviour, attention, acoustic and visual signals (recall, letting go, etc.), everyday socialising (public transport, road traffic, other animals), play, situations in the city or in the countryside. In some cantons (e.g. Zurich), this course is mandatory for dogs on the list of breed types "Rassetypenliste I", those with a shoulder height of at least 45 cm and/or those weighing over 16 kg. The training must be attended between the 17th week and the 18th month of age.
