These are banks that provide all conventional bank services. Other factors are representation within and outside of Switzerland and their size.
In the 1980‘s, there were 5 Swiss major banks:
- Schweizerische Bankgesellschaft (SBG)
- Schweizerischer Bankverein (SBV)
- Schweizerische Kreditanstalt (SKA)
- Bank Leu AG
- Schweizerische Volksbank (SVB)
Many mergers and takeovers led to the current existence of only two Swiss corporate banks:
