Do you wish to change your mobile network provider but have your misgivings with regard to network coverage? comparis.ch shows you what you need to watch out for.

The German specialist magazine "Connect" has been testing Swiss mobile networks for six years. In past years, there used to be major differences among the providers. This year, however, these differences are negligible.

Swisscom scores best with 456 out of 500 points. Sunrise gets 442 points and Orange almost as much with 441 points. "Connect" rates all three Swiss providers as "very good".

Nevertheless, there are places in which one provider may be better than another.

This is how you can find out whether a provider offers good network coverage:

Coverage maps

Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt all offer network coverage maps on their websites. This allows you to check what the reception is like in specific places (e.g. at your home or office) with each provider.

By the way, M-Budget customers use the Swisscom network, GoMo customers the Salt network and Yallo customers the Sunrise network.

Buy a prepaid card

If you want to change your provider but have your doubts with regard to the network coverage of your new provider, we suggest that you first buy a prepaid card and test the coverage in the places you frequently visit. Prepaid cards including credit can often be bought for as little as 20 francs. If you also wish to use the Internet, you best add a data bundle. If you are satisfied with the network coverage, you can then switch to that provider.

Mobile cell for your home

Sunrise and Salt offer cells for use at home. Holders of a mobile plan receive a small box that can be connected to the modem of their Internet connection (DSL, cable or optical fibre). This makes sense in case of poor reception at home and if one has fast internet access there. Many modern houses are very well insulated and indoor reception is often not as good as outside the house.
