The CD was developed by Philips and Sony as a joint project. The first CD worldwide was produced on 17 August 1982. The CD brought forward the change from analogue to digital music industry and paved the way for new digital data carriers such as CD-ROM, Video CD, DVD, Blu-Ray Disc und HD DVD.
