Centre for Credit Information (CIC)

The CIC is the information centre for matters pertaining to consumer credit, credit cards and leases. All important providers are members of the CIC.

The CIC database saves:

  • borrowers' first and last name
  • date of birth
  • address
  • profession
  • marital status
  • information about previous (also outstanding and denied) credit applications, running and expired contracts, blocked or confiscated credit cards, payment habits

Members of the CIC must enter this information into their database. This gives them access to extensive information about borrowers when placing an application for consumer credit.

The CIC is subject to data protection. Every individual has the right to view his own details. In order to obtain this, you must send a signed disclosure application along with a copy of formal identification (such as your passport, driving licence, residence permit etc.) to the ICO (information centre for consumer credit). The CIC must then hand out requested information within 30 days as stated by law.
