Overview of key points

A lease is a contract in which one party conveys the use of an object to another party. As the legal owner, the leaser allows the lessee to use the object In return, the lessor receives payments of leasing instalments over an agreed period of time. In contrast to a personal loan it is an object, not money, that is borrowed. In Switzerland, leasing agreements are primarily used for cars and motorcycles.

During the term of the contract, the lessees are required to maintain the vehicle. In other words, lessees are responsible not only for taking out obligatory fully comprehensive (full casco) insurance, but for arranging service and maintenance as well. After the contract expires, the property is handed over to the lessor again.
