Moving to Switzerland

For citizens of the European Union it is easy to move to Switzerland. Look for a job first and then for a flat. As soon as you have arrived here, you need to register at the municipal administration of your place of residence. There you will receive a work and residence permit. Then you need to take out a health insurance, take out all other necessary insurances, open up a bank account and select a mobile network provider. When this is all done, you’re almost a Swiss.

If you change your place of residence to Switzerland, you have to declare your relocation goods. This is quite simple. The only requirement is that you have been using the items for the last 6 months yourself and will continue to do so. Therefore, buy your new furniture AFTER you have moved. The same rule applies for imported vehicles. When you enter Switzerland, you have to show a list of all items you are bringing with you. Therefore it is recommended to write a list when you are packing your goods. Also, you should be carrying your Swiss rental contract and your work contract at customs in order to prove your legal place of residence change. Also, it is further recommended to cross the border during the office times of the customs office.
