It is the aim of comparis.ch to develop a hospital guide in which all hospitals in Switzerland are listed. The comparison of patients' satisfaction as well as rates of re-entries, infections and errors presented here is the basis for this. This basis can efficiently be extended so that the patients' satisfaction, the re-entry, infection and error rates of other hospitals can be shown.
comparis.ch counts on the willingness of the hospitals to take part in the comparison. The smaller and more specialised a hospital is, the more difficult it is for the IHA-GfK market research institution to reach former patients. Already a survey on all 182 public hospitals with A and E department which are listed in the statistic of the Health Governors' Conference (GDK) would have by far exceeded the financial possibilities of comparis.ch.
Other hospitals, however, can be included for free into the comparison. The hospitals only have to take over the costs for the survey on patients' satisfaction and re-entry, infection and error rates through IHA-GfK with the Comparis questionnaire for 100 former patients, which should not exceed CHF 11.000 in the case of a regionally orientated, public hospital with an A and E department. Once the survey has been made, IHA-GfK gives the data for the evaluation to comparis.ch. The hospital will be listed with its reached amount of points in the overview over patients' satisfaction and rates of re-entries, infections and errors on the www.comparis.ch website.

The screening effort of IHA-GfK in order to find 100 former patients per defined hospital was already very high. From a statistical point of view, 100 answers are sufficient in order to get significant results. The more answers one has, the more assured are the results. comparis.ch is fully aware of this fact. This is why, on a long-term perspective, the hospitals have the possibility to give their patients the Comparis questionnaire in future. The rest is done for the hospitals by comparis.ch for free. In this way, more answers per hospital can be gathered.
