Suspension means that insurance coverage is dormant over a certain period of time. Policyholders serving over 60 consecutive days of military service may suspend health insurance during this time by providing proof of the service. The policyholder is exempt from premium payment if notice is given to the insurance company at least 8 weeks before the beginning of the service.
If premiums are still paid during the time of the service, proof can be handed in later. The policyholders then receive reimbursement.
In the case of longer stays abroad, you may be able to suspend unnecessary supplementary health insurance products during this time period. However, before taking any steps, make sure to check if the reactivation of the supplementary insurance is guaranteed without reservations (risk assessment)!
