Some of the larger health insurance companies (Concordia, Helsana, Intras, Visana and Xundheit) offer their customers bonus models. Generally, in the first year a supplementary fee of 10 percent on the basic insurance premium with a deductible rate of 300 (a higher deductible rate or alternative models such as HMO or GP model are not possible with the bonus model. The premium then decreases with every year in which no benefits were claimed: in the second year to 85 percent, in the third to 75 percent, in the fourth to 65 percent and in the fifth to at most 55 percent. More than 50 percent reductions are not allowed by law. If the policyholder claims benefits, the health insurance allocates the policyholder to a lower reduction level the next year.
The policyholder is obliged to a certain minimal contract duration which must be higher than one year. Also, the termination period for bonus models is increased from one to three months.
