Providers of supplementary health insurance may make provisos either for a limited or unlimited amount of time if the applicant is considered to be at higher risk from a medical point of view. This means that the policyholder may not make claims for the ailments connected with the condition to which the provider objected.
Example: You suffer from allergies and apply for a supplementary health insurance product covering alternative therapy. The insurance provider objects to your application and will only grant coverage for treatment not related to or resulting from your allergies within this insurance class. If you desire treatment provided by a natural health practitioner, you must cover full costs yourself. You will not be able to make insurance claims.
However, you may request treatment performed by a physician with traditional training. Their methods are based on scientific information and covered by basic health insurance.
Providers of supplementary health insurance may also object to coverage in retrospect, if it turns out that a policyholder gave false or incomplete information when applying. |
