Pay less thanks to premium reduction

A current statistic shows: a third of the Swiss population pays reduced premiums. Reduced premiums are intended to reduce the financial load of persons in modest financial circumstances. Thereby, the taxable income is not allowed to exceed a certain maximum limit. The exact requirements for a premium reduction vary from canton to canton. The amount of reduction depends on the income, the place of residence and the age.

Generally all entitled persons receive the application directly from the cantons. However, not all entitled persons are automatically registered. This can be the case if the income changed during the year due to certain reasons or due to a move to another canton. If you are not sure, you should check if your income entitles you to a premium reduction. Application forms are available at the cantonal social security offices or their branch offices. Find an overview of the cantonal social security offices here.
