Interest rates are tumbling at Postfinance

Postfinance has been paying savers comparatively high interest rates for a long time. Until now, assets on the Deposito account (the Postfinance saving account) received an interest of 1 percent, if the account was managed online even 1.5 percent. These attractive interest rates are soon a thing of the past: as per 1st April, the interest for the savings account is only 0.75 percent and 1.25 percent for accounts managed via the Internet. The Postfinance Pillar 3a pension account only will receive 2.25 percent interest – which is a minus of 0.25 percentage points.

Compared to other providers, it is clear that Postfinance will continue to be in the high to middle end of the spectrum. However, there are providers paying considerably higher interest rates. Front runner herein is the Swissquote Bank (dynamic savings account) with 1.764 percent, followed by the Banque CIC savings account (anniversary savings account) with 1.75 percent and the Generali (Genera savings account) with 1.6 percent. Example for CHF 10,000; as of 17th March 2010.

A regular interest rate comparison is worthwhile in order to save money the cleverest way.
