Comparis rating

1. Explanations of the rating

The Comparis rating assesses the price of the car in the advertisement and helps to better estimate the attractiveness of the offer.

Target price and saving potential
The target price for the advertisements is calculated by comparis.ch. It complies with the average price in comparison with comparable vehicle offers on the Internet. The prices calculated by comparis.ch are target prices that can vary strongly according to the condition and special equipment of the vehicle. The saving potential shows how much lower the selling price of the advertised car is compared to the target price.

Comparis rating
According to the Swiss school rating system, the Comparis rating evaluates the price-related attractiveness of the advertised car compared to the average target price. If the selling price complies with the target price, this advertisement will receive the mark of 4.5 (satisfactory). The cheaper an offer, the better the Comparis rating.

Mark 6.0 - 5.5:   very good (the advertised vehicle is comparatively very cheap)
Mark 5.4 - 5.0:   good (the advertised vehicle is comparatively rather cheap)
Mark 4.9 - 4.5:   satisfactory (the advertised vehicle is of an average price)
Mark 4.4 - 4.0:   sufficient (the advertised vehicle is comparatively rather expensive)
Mark 3.9 - 1.0:   insufficient (the advertised vehicle is comparatively very expensive)

2. Method

The rating of the prices of the offered vehicles is based on a statistical model of ETH scientist Andreas Keller. comparis.ch made comprehensive data collections on the vehicles offered online. With the help of this data, the devaluation of an advertised car over time is calculated individually.

3. Exceptions

New cars are not rated by comparis.ch. Vehicles, of which comparis.ch has only very little market information (rare or very expensive vehicles such as classic cars), are also not rated. Please keep in mind that comparis.ch cannot take special features of a vehicle such as custom products and tuning parts into consideration when making the rating.

Accident vehicles
From the data available, comparis.ch cannot recognise if the offered vehicle is an accident car or not. The price calculated by comparis.ch is always based on the assumption that it is not an accident vehicle. However, if a vehicle is obviously marked as an accident vehicle, it will be excluded fro the rating.

Condition
The vehicle rating is based on the assumption that the vehicle condition complies with its age and the driven kilometres. Mechanical defects, defects of the body and interior equipment, bad tyres or other defects – also due to accidents – cannot be taken into consideration.

Custom products
The target prices calculated by comparis.ch apply to vehicles with average equipment. Therefore, selling prices for especially well or badly equipped cars can vary strongly from the calculated target price.
