This is the amount of money the insured customer must contribute in case of damage.
Retention applies to each case of damage covered by insurance.
The retention rate is stated in your policy.
Third party insurance
There are three different retention rates:
- for young drivers,
- for Anew drivers and
- for all other drivers.
Young drivers:Drivers under 25 years of age the the time of damage count as young drivers. The retention rate is ususally CHF 1,000.--
New drivers: Drivers 25 years of age or older licensed for less than two years count as new drivers. Learner's permits are not considered as licences. The retention rate is usually CHF 500.--.
Other drivers: These drivers are at least 25 years of age and have had their licence for at least 2 years. There is usually no retention.
Damage to one's own vehicle
The policy states all cases for which the insured individual must cover retention. The amount of coverage varies from insurer to insurer.
Examples for coverages where retentions can fall due:
- collision damages
- stationary damages
- theft damages
- glass damages
Tip: A higher retention for collision damages considerably reduces the premium compred to a higher retention in the partial cover insurance and is therefore more recommended. The condition is that you are ready to take over the higher share of costs in the case of a claim.
