Compulsory basic insurance:
The basic insurance is compulsory for all persons with residency in Switzerland. It covers all basic health benefits. The benefits in the basic insurance are clearly defined and the same at every health insurance company. The premium depends on the place of residence, the age of the policyholder and on the health insurance company. Every person can therefore choose their insurance company. More
Terms: After your arrival in Switzerland, you have 3 months time to sign up for the compulsory basic insurance at a health insurance company of your choice.
Deductible rate (own cost contribution)
The monthly premiums also depend on the amount of the own cost contribution, the so-called deductible rate. The minimal deductible rate is CHF 300 by law. However, you can choose a higher deductible rate and thereby reduce your monthly premium amounts. A calculation example helps you to calculate your health costs. More
